§ 2-16. Assessment of $5.00 on each criminal and traffic case to fund costs of electronic summons system.

  • (a)

    The sum of five dollars ($5.00) is hereby assessed by the city as part of the costs in each criminal or traffic case filed in the courts of the 31st Judicial District or the 31st Judicial Circuit in which the defendant is charged with a violation of any statute or ordinance.

    (b)

    The assessment levied by subsection (a) above shall be collected by the clerk of the court in which the action is filed, remitted to the city treasurer, and held by the city treasurer subject to disbursements by the governing body to the city's police department solely to fund software, hardware, and associated equipment costs for the implementation and maintenance of an electronic summons system.
