§ 25-34. Payment extension plan.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Any water and sewer customer whose account is delinquent and who cannot pay the amount due prior to service being shut off may extend the due date for payment in accordance with this section by paying, no later than close of business on the day before the shut-off date, an administrative fee of fifteen dollars ($15.00) plus thirty percent (30%) of the delinquent amount then due, including penalties and interest, to the city treasurer, and entering into a payment extension plan with the city treasurer for payment of the remaining delinquent amount, including interest that accrues during the payment extension plan period.

    (b)

The payment extension plan will provide for up to six (6) equal monthly payments, payable on the same date each month that regular water and sewer bills are due, with the first payment being due on the due date immediately following the date the payment extension plan has been signed by both the customer and the city treasurer. The amount due each month for the payment extension plan will be in addition to the amount due each month for regular water and sewer service.

    (c)

During the payment extension plan period, if any monthly payment is not made by the due date, or if the customer's account is otherwise not kept current (e.g., if a regular monthly bill for water and sewer service is not paid by the due date), the city shall promptly cease supplying water and sewage disposal services to that customer in accordance with section 25-31.

    (d)

Interest will continue to accrue on the delinquent amount still due on the account until final payment has been made.

    (e)

A water and sewer customer can enter into a payment extension plan only once every two (2) years. The city treasurer shall not enter into a payment extension plan with any customer who has previously entered into a payment extension plan until a period of at least eighteen (18) months has elapsed following the final payment on the previous payment extension plan.
